Here's my take on BNI...(no, I'm not a member-just a guest) with so many insurance agents, financial advisors, chiropractors and massage therapists and NMers around...(did I mention realtors?) the focus is usually on spending money amongst themselves and trying to stay a viable leads group.
In fact I see the trend as falling out of favor as people just can't spend the time getting together in a big group, etc.
We'll go back to mastermind groups with no particular branded (franchise) name attached to it; just friends who like each other and want to help without having to pay "dues".

@MikeLangford who just sent along his holiday wishes in the comment above is one of the best at both online & offline networking. His new venture Tweetworks takes Twitter to a whole new level allowing people to follow conversations and network with like-minded individuals far easier. I'm doing one of my "5 question interviews" with Mike about Tweetworks which will be posted in the next few weeks. Mike may be modest but I have no problem giving him a shameless plug. Happy Thanksgiving Mike!
