Every body wants to save the world so i think so Twitter can be as simple as following an interesting conversation between a few people, providing a link to a great article or video or maybe just some witty banter between friends.Twitter can be informative for conversations and learning, and very helpful for getting answers to questions.I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in writing this article. Interesting as always, Eric.

Although, as I might have told you, I’m not interested in Twitter personally–I do find discussion of it fascinating.

It’s old hat to discuss it, but the unprecedented level of connectivity available these days is just plain wild–and of course Twitter seems to be a major player in this connectivity.

It’s certainly something I’d like to read studies on as they become available. Not opinion driven “is it good/is it bad”–but just the effects of traditional barriers in conversation–such as place or even age–being removed and the effect of it all.

Thanks for the mention. It’s so funny how it ebbs and flows–some days you’re in constant conversation, others you find a series of digital inside jokes, and still others you may have missed the mark completely. It’s an interesting confluence of circumstances that put you online at the right time to help. But the online community is an environment that encourages listening and giving.

@adamcohen Great point! That is the one thing a lot of people don’t understand is that if you give back to your Twitter community at large…it will come back to you 10 fold. Just taking a moment to listen to what your followers are asking and helping where applicable is a great way to engage your followers and let them know you are listening.

I’m always amazed at the responses I get and the help people are willing to provide on Twitter, just by asking a simple question.

Hey Eric – Great post! Twitter can be informative for conversations and learning, and very helpful for getting answers to questions. I’ve leveraged Twitter for a “pulse” on social media related topics (usually resulting in a blog post) to restaurant/fun recommendations. Just today I got several responses when I was looking for a quiet place to work besides Starbucks in downtown Boston.

One note – it’s important to give too – I try to watch for people asking questions to help them out and participate. One of those “scratch my back…” things one can attribute to “Twitter Karma.” Your followers are a community, after all…

I think if you invest the time to build up a fair amount of followers, a question asked on twitter can be much more valuable than google results. Humans understand your question much more clearly than an algorithm, and can customize the answer to what you might like.
